Build Future-Proof Fibre Networks with MikroTik and BDCOM

Capacity constraints on fibre networks are driven by the increase in subscriber rates and the bandwidth required to satisfy these new customers. Too many Internet Service Providers (ISP)s wait until their networks are on the cusp of burning out to upgrade their core, negatively affecting the customer’s experience. MikroTik introduced an innovative Coarse Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (CWDM) technology now available from SS Telecoms. The CWDM can tremendously increase the overall capacity of your existing fibre infrastructure by enabling multiple channels or wavelengths over the same fibre cable, reducing costs for any new fibre optic deployments and future-proofing bandwidth requirements.

How does the CWDM work?

This technology simultaneously combines several wavelengths onto the same fibre cable to offer you unparalleled bandwidth capacity. The CWDM system uses a multiplexer at the transmitter to connect several signals while using the demultiplexer at the receiving end to split them apart. This allows you to combine up to eight fibre links into one, simplifying and reducing the costs of long-distance fibre installations.

The benefits of implementing the CWDM system into your network includes increased efficiency on your existing fibre network, scalability, easy deployment, reduced consumption of electricity (passive equipment), reduced maintenance of equipment and installation costs.

The MikroTik CWDM-MUX8A unit can offer you the capacity to create up to eight independent 1.25Gbps SFP links, enabling you to reach distances of up to 40 kilometres. Alternatively, you can create a 10Gbps SPF+ for connections up to 10 kilometres. This means you can have an affordable alternative to installing more fibre or leasing additional fibres. ISPs and fibre network operators (FNOs) can simultaneously use the 1.25Gbps and 10Gbps modules.

At SS Telecoms, we offer you a variety of connector choices for their network:

SS Telecoms completes its compelling fibre offering by distributing BDCOM: The ISP and FNO partner of choice for last-mile fibre connectivity.

Who is BDCOM?

BDCOM is a top-tier networking manufacturer that specialises in core networking and last-mile communication products. BDCOMs products include copper and fibre network switches, Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) and Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) solutions, routers and network security devices. BDCOM is world-renowned for offering best-of-breed IP networking products at a very affordable price and pride itself in having the lowest product failure rate amongst industry peers. ISPs and FNOs widely use BDCOM fibre network technology across the globe, and their sole focus is to keep their production costs down without compromising product quality and reliability. BDCOM is a true disruptor in the fibre industry and is made readily available in Southern Africa by SS Telecoms in South Africa.
